We recently held a live Skin Schools chat via our Skinceuticals Instagram page to answer some of your most pressing skincare questions. From how to calm angry, red skin, to which cleanser to use to improve blemishes, here’s a selection of some of the most common questions from the live Q&A.

Should you put hyaluronic acid under your eyes or just around?

You can use a hyaluronic acid serum around the eye area to moisturise and restore the appearance fo the skin. Our H A Intensifier is clinically proven to be safe for use around the eyes and lips.

What’s the perfect day and night routine for someone with minimal skin concerns?

This depends on your personal skincare concerns, and skin type but we always recommend the following as a minimum in the day: double cleanse the skin,then apply an antioxidant serum, follow with a hydrating serum such as Hydrating B5, and finally an SPF. At night double cleanse the skin then apply a SkinCeuticals corrective serum or treatment. Finally, apply a hyaluronic acid serum to seal moisture into the skin.

What do you recommend for angry, red skin that is hot, tight and dry?

Rosacea-prone skin is always tricky. We recommend seeing a dermatologist where possible but the products that can help include SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Masque to bring down heat in the skin, Epidermal Repair to restore the skin’s barrier and H.A. Intensifier to increase the skin’s hydration levels.

What regime do you advise for sensitive skin that is also quite greasy and prone to breakouts?

In the morning, we’d advise starting your routine with our Simply Clean cleanser followed by Phyto Corrective serum and Ultra Facial Defense. Then in the evening, cleanse again with our Simply Clean cleanser, followed by the Blemish + Age Cleanser and Phyto Corrective serum. You can use Blemish and AGE Defense on specific areas if you are having a break out.

What cleanser should I use for blemish-prone skin

Our Blemish + Age cleanser is perfect for this skin type as it’s formulated with a combination of glycolic acid and salicylic acid – both of which are really effective at decongesting and brightening the skin.

How can I get rid of blemish scars?

If you are no longer experiencing active blemishe sand your breakouts are under control, we recommend an antioxidant serum such as SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF to brighten the skin. Then follow with our Discolouration Defense Serum to help reduce the appearance of existing discolouration with Advanced Brightening UV Defense SPF as they work in tandem with each other. In the evening, cleanse as usual before applying a retinol treatment such as SkinCeuticals Retinol 0.3% to exfoliate and encourage cell turnover.

Can your H.A. Intensifier serum and C E Ferulic Acid serum be used together? And what about retinol?

Our C E Ferulic Serum should be used every morning to protect and brighten the skin throughout the day and can also be followed with SkinCeuticals H.A. Intensifier serum. A retinol treatment such as our Retinol 0.3% should be only used in the evening but can also be followed with H.A. Intensifier.

If I can’t make my usual professional peel appointment, is there anything I can do at home?

Our Glycolic 10 Renew Overnight treatment and Glycolic Renewal Cleanser are the perfect duo. They both increase cellular turnover and help give you that glow that you usually get from an in-clinic peel.

How can I get rid of dry patches?

This depends- if your skin dryness is caused by a medical condition such as eczema, we’d always advise you see a dermatologist for advice. If your skin is flaky, we’d suggest using SkinCeuticals Glycolic Renewal Cleanser and our Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2 moisturiser. Then in the evening, you can add in the Glycolic 10 Renew Overnight serum and Hydrating B5 Masque.

Can you recommend an eye cream for under-eye pigmentation please?

Our AOX + Eye Gel contains phloretin, vitamin C and ferulic acid which and helps to brighten the eye area. Its formula also reinforces the skin’s natural antioxidant defences and improves the appearance of photo damage.

If my morning routine includes vitamin C, should I rotate using retinol and AHAs (alpha-hydroxy acids) in the evening for best results?

You shouldn’t use an AHA and retinol in the same evening so we’d suggest alternating their use on different days. For example, on Monday and Thursday use retinol and then on Wednesday and Friday, apply an a product with AHA such as glycolic or lactic acid.
