Facial Massage at Home

From reducing tension, to treating the physical symptoms of stressed skin, and revealing a rejuvenated and radiant complexion, discover the many benefits of facial massage.

Facial massage has been around for centuries, used to help calm the mind and body while leaving the skin noticeably calmer, plumper and radiant. Its effectiveness is largely due to the way it targets the lymph nodes under the ears and on the neck, which can become blocked and slow the body’s natural lymphatic drainage system. The result?  Grey, puffy and dull-looking skin.

But by adding regular facial massage into a skincare routine, toxins are drained away, maximising and increasing oxygen delivery to the skin. Not only will you be left with a brighter and healthier-looking complexion it will help your favourite products absorb into the skin – enhancing their results.

Let’s look at three simple ways you can combine SkinCeuticals products with facial massage…

 Step 1: Cleanse and tone

Before beginning your facial massage, you’ll need to gently prepare the skin. First, cleanse your skin thoroughly using one pump of either SkinCeuticals Gentle Cleanser or another SkinCeuticals Cleanser depending on skin type. Cleanse the skin slowly and remove product gently with warm water. You can also use soft gauze or warm, sterilised towels to promote relaxation. Next, saturate two cotton pads with SkinCeuticals Equalizing Toner and sweep gently across the face and neck.

Step 2: Add an exfoliating serum or face mask

Serums are a fantastic way to enhance your facial massage and is a great next step. Try mixing one pipette of SkinCeuticals Retexturing Activator with one pipette of SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 and start to apply the product to the face and neck using a gentle massage motion on the pressure points. To do this place your index and middle fingers on each hand at the base of the skull in the parallel hollow areas between the two vertical neck muscles. This will help the products sink deeply into the skin as well as helping you to relax. Continue to apply the product in this way for up to 10 minutes and then wash the face with warm water and pat dry.

Alternatively, if you enjoy a weekly face mask, use a fan brush to apply a thin layer of SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Masque to the face and neck. Then massage to relieve stress at the pressure points for approximately five minutes. Leave the masque on for 10 minutes in total before removing it with cool water. If applying both masques and serums, complete the masque step first.

Step 3: Finish with an antioxidant serum and moisturiser

Finally, apply 3-5 drops of SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic or equivalent Antioxidant based on your skintype to the face and neck using a light tapping motion. Follow up with a moisturiser of choice such as SkinCeuticals Metacell Renewal B3 if you have normal to oily skin, or Triple lipid Restore 2:4:2 if you have age-related dryness. Your skin should look and feel noticeably plumper and calmer. If you are completing the facial in the morning, don’t forget to apply a suitable SkinCeuticals sunscreen such as Ultra Facial UV Defense SPF 50 to protect you throughout the day from the suns damaging rays.

Make massage part of your regular skincare routine to enhance results and promote relaxation. It’s the perfect way to make Selfcare Sundays extra special too.
