9 Easy Skin Resolutions For 2019

Start the year with a clean slate

Double-cleansing your skin will ensure that dirt, makeup and debris are thoroughly removed from skin and pores so that serums and creams can penetrate the skin properly and work their magic. An oil-based cleanser such as SkinCeuticals Simply Clean improves your skin’s overall texture by gently exfoliating, soothing, and softening it. Follow up with SkinCeuticals Gentle Cleanser to pick up any residue. We love this orange oil-enriched cleanser because, as the name implies, it is gentle and soothing for the skin.

Buff away the old and bring in the new

Gentle, regular exfoliation is key to great-looking skin as it helps to sloth away dead skin cells, revive dull-looking skin and encourage regeneration. There are two ways to do this; either using a physical exfoliator (think abrasive creams or scrubs) or a chemical peel such as SkinCeuticals Glycolic 10 Renew Overnight. This overnight glycolic acid cream contains a true 10% glycolic acid value, an essential ingredient in promoting a healthy cellular turnover for glowing skin.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

The easiest and most important way to promote healthy, dewy skin is hydrating from within but you’d be astonished at how many of our clients drink little to no water daily. Drinking at least 2 litres of water a day will not only keep you hydrated but also help to flush toxins from your system. If you want an extra dose of vitamins and antioxidants from your drinking water, try adding citrus or other fruits and cucumbers.

Catch some quality zzz’s

A night of quality sleep is a beauty must-have. Not only does a bad night affect our mood and mental energy, it also affects our skin, as sleep time is when the body repairs and rejuvenates itself. Also be aware of your sleeping position. Sleeping on the side of your face can cause wrinkles, known as “sleep lines.” These lines often appear in parallel along the temples, around the eyes, the lateral cheek area and around the mouth. People who have been sleeping on the same side for years often have noticeably more ‘sleep lines’ on the side that they sleep on.

For a good quality sleep ensure that distractions like light, noise and screens are regulated and turn the heating down to a comfortable level (around 20 degrees Celsius). Try to sleep predominantly on your back or alternate sides regularly. Slather cleansed skin with a good nighttime antioxidant treatment such as SkinCeuticals Resveratrol B E, for maximum rejuvenating effect. Resveratrol B E works in tandem with your cells and supports your skin’s natural antioxidant defences.

Treat yourself to a regular facial

One of the cornerstones for effortlessly glowing skin is a regular facial. We ensure that most of our clients have a facial, microdermabrasion or a dermal infusion before performing a laser treatment so that it has maximum impact.

Take your vitamins

Orally imbibed vitamins can really make a difference to your skin quality, we believe. Vitamin C in particular has myriad benefits; it can help enhance the efficacy of topically applied sunscreens by aiding the natural antioxidant process of your body. This power vitamin also helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and dry skin. Naturally, we will always recommend topical vitamin C serums. We love SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF Gel, a serum-in-a-gel daytime antioxidant that helps reduce free radical damage, diminish the appearance of discolouration as well as improve skin tone and texture.

Resolve to give your skin some self care

One of the best ways to pamper your skin is to use a face mask. Professional-grade face masks such as those offered by SkinCeuticals are designed to enhance the results of a daily skincare regimen and target particular skincare problems such as excess oil, congested pores and dehydration. Our most popular mask is SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Masque. Used weekly, it provides a high level of hydration that results in a supple, healthier complexion.

Be active

Often we claim to be 'too busy' to do exercise, but ignoring it can be a big negative on skin. Even going for a brisk 30 minute walk, at least three times a week helps. By elevating your heart rate for a prolonged amount of time, exercise will help push blood around your body and flush out those toxins. We promise you’ll feel the benefits not only in your glowing complexion but also your overall mood, energy and wellbeing.

Protect your neck

Our necks often get neglected in our skincare regimens but this area actually needs extra help. Neck skin is thinner and more delicate than that on the face; it’s also more prone to dryness because the sebaceous glands on our necks aren’t as numerous than those on our faces. Moreover our necks are exposed to more sunlight than the rest of our body and this is typically the area to show premature signs of ageing. So always remember to apply sunscreen to your face, neck and décolleté. We suggest using SkinCeuticals Sheer Mineral UV Defense SPF 50 every day in the morning and reapplying when you can throughout the day. Additionally apply SkinCeuticals Retinol 0.3 once or twice a week before bed to soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
