Press Release BIOGRAPHY Sheldon R. Pinnell, M.D. Sheldon R. Pinnell will be visiting London in June to speak at the Facial Aesthetic Conference and Exhibition on new developments in topical anti-oxidants. F.A.C.E. will review cutting edge aspects of minimally invasive rejuvenation of the ageing face. Sheldon R. Pinnell, M.D. is the J. Lamar Callaway Professor Emeritus of Dermatology at Duke University Medical Center, where he also served as Chief of Dermatology for fifteen years. Dr. Pinnell is an expert in the field of dermatology, antioxidants, collagen chemistry and sun protection. Recently, he has been researching new technologies to prevent skin cancer and photoaging. A diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology, Dr. Pinnell also is a member of several medical and scientific societies, including the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Dermatological Association, the Society of Investigative Dermatology, and the Association of American Physicians. Dr. Pinnell is a founding scientist of FibroGen, a biotech company headquartered in Southern San Francisco; and SkinCeuticals, a Dallas-based company that manufactures and distributes skin care products to dermatologists, plastic surgeons, and licensed skin care professionals worldwide. Dr. Pinnell also is president and founder of SkinResearch, a biotech company headquartered in North Carolina dedicated to improving skin care through science and technology. Dr. Pinnell is the recipient of numerous medical and scientific awards including The Best Doctors in America; The International Who’s Who in Medicine, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering and Who’s Who in America. An expert in dermatological prevention and treatment, Dr. Pinnell holds four patents: A Stable Solution of L-ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C); Method for the Prevention of Scars with Enzymes; Method of Inhibiting Fibrosis; and Minoxidil Analogs as Inhibitors of Cell Proliferation and Lysyl Hydroxylase. He has published approximately 200 articles, including thirty book chapters, on dermatology topics such as photoaging, collagen synthesis, UV protection, and topical vitamin C and other antioxidants. Most recently, his article, “Cutaneous photodamage, oxidative stress and topical antioxidant protection,” was published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology (48:1-19 2003). Dr. Pinnell received his Medical Degree at Yale University, conducted his medical internship and residency at the University of Minnesota Hospital and completed his dermatology residency at Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital. He did his research training at the National Institute of Health and the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry. Dr. Pinnell earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University where he majored in chemistry. |
