Why do I need a sunscreen and an antioxidant? I always
thought sunscreens were good on their own?
There have been a couple of studies conducted – one as
far back as 1999 that has raised some doubt about sunscreens’ efficacy. Frankly
speaking, most people do not apply an appropriate amount of product
to get themselves the protection they need. That is why it is
advised to use a sunscreen in conjunction with a SkinCeuticals
antioxidant which has been shown to offer the skin further protection.
A sort of security blanket if you like.
Are you saying you can use a sunscreen as a moisturizer?
Yes why not? It’s far better than using a regular moisturizer
that does not offer full protection – that way you have
a two in one product – a sunscreen and a moisturizer
What’s the best way to deal with Hyperpigmentation? I
now have so much on my face and I’m not even sure how it
got there!
A Hyperpigmentation comes in all forms and effects every skin
type from the darkest to the lightest. Most forms of Hyperpigmentation
are either caused by the sun or made worse by it so the best
advice is stay out of the sun and use sun protection. Of course,
that is normally impossible to adhere to. So our first advice
would be to protect against it by using an antioxidant and a
sunscreen but additionally, introduce a peeling regime (SkinCeuticals
now have a Pigment Balancing Masque) which is a skincare protocol
performed by a professional in clinic – email us to find
out your local clinic. Separately, for home use the Pigment
regulator which contains 10% Glycolic acid and Kojic acid and
Emblica. This has been clinically trialled by a Dermatologist
and improvement has been seen after a 3 month clinical trial
versus using a 4% Hydroquinone formulation. This
product will help fade age spots and traces of acne as well as
a global uniformisation of the skin tone and also protects against
future discoloration.
